Coremation: How Core groups are formed
Coremation is the term we use at Chief for the Core Group formation process. Coremation happens every other month and includes new members and tenured members at their annual refresh.
Members are matched based on a number of criteria including professional level, scheduling availability, years at current professional level, and company’s annual revenue. We also work to ensure members are not the “only” in their group and avoid conflicts of interest.
After Core Groups are created, the Core and Guide Success teams work together to match Guides to groups based on their Guide matching surveys.
Coremation occurs during the following months:
January
March
May
July
September
November
You can typically expect the first Core meeting to occur at the beginning of the month following Coremation. For example, if Coremation occurs in January, then that cohort of Core meetings will most likely take place at the beginning of February.
FAQ
-
The Coremation email includes the M1 date and time, a link to view your Core members on Chief.com, links to register for Guide New Core Group office hours, the scheduling survey, and a few reminders including the M1 facilitation materials and Wrap Slides.
-
You will be notified within the Coremation announcement email of any members that have the Core Premium Advisory membership type. If any new members are added at any point during Core, you will need to use the member lookup tool to determine if the new group member has a Core Premium membership.
-
We encourage you to reach out to introduce yourself to the group via email or the chat function on the Chief platform once you have received the Coremation announcement. If you notice a new member is added to your group between the group announcement email and your M1, please reach out to that person individually as well. You can use the suggested email copy on the M1 materials page and adjust to your personal style.
Additionally, some Guides send a connection request via LinkedIn with a brief introduction in addition to the email or chat message they send.
The goal is to build excitement and initial connections during the transition period ahead of M1.
-
We encourage you to send a calendar invite to the members of your group for M1 which includes your meeting Zoom link. After M1, you can optionally continue to send meeting invites for future meetings. You can also address the importance of commitment and attendance in your welcome email.

Transitions can occur in the time between the Coremation announcement and M1 for many reasons. Most often, transitions happen because of one of the following reasons:
A member has a conflict with the meeting time of their originally matched group that they did not know about when they filled out their onboarding survey
There is a known conflict with another member of the group (e.g., works for a client of theirs, works with a family member, is a competitor, etc.) and requests a Core Group change.
Additionally, some members who missed the initial Onboarding Form deadline might be added after the Coremation announcement goes out. These transitions can take place up until 1 week prior to your first Core meeting.
