WORKSHOP:
INTRODUCTION TO LIBERATING STRUCTURES
EVENT SUMMARY:
Date: October 17, 2024
Presenters:
Fernando Murray and Héctor Villarreal Lozoya
Summary:
In today’s session, many of you highlighted the deep sense of connection and shared learning as particularly valuable. The triad and quad breakouts were praised for fostering trust, vulnerability, and open sharing, which allowed for honest conversations and meaningful insights. The ability to exchange different perspectives and approaches was a recurring theme, with several participants mentioning how hearing from peers helped broaden their thinking and provided fresh ideas for addressing challenges.
Liberating Structures were also seen as impactful, with some of you noting that the time constraints and video-off structure kept discussions focused and productive, encouraging more active listening and allowing space for all voices to be heard. The structured formats like Troika Consulting and TRIZ were appreciated for their practical application and for how they could be integrated into coaching and group facilitation. Many expressed an eagerness to bring these structures into their coaching practice, peer advisory groups, and client sessions, finding them effective tools for fostering collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.
The session also underscored the importance of creating psychologically safe environments, where participants can reflect, share honestly, and feel supported. This sense of community and collective wisdom was seen as a powerful takeaway, with many expressing gratitude for the heart-centered and thoughtful exchanges.
In terms of application, participants shared they would incorporate the following into their practices
Utilizing time-bound structures to encourage focus and succinctness
Applying Liberating Structures like Troika Consulting TRIZ and other experiential activities in group coaching or peer sessions
Leveraging the power of silence and reflection in sessions by turning off video and allowing space for deeper listening
Encouraging vulnerability and diverse perspectives as a way to enrich group discussions and problem-solving
Bringing the collective wisdom and collaborative atmosphere experienced in the session into future client work
Overall, this session offered both practical techniques and invaluable connections, leaving participants with a renewed sense of community and excitement to experiment with new approaches in their professional practice
