Zoom and digital facilitation best practices
As a Guide, your Core Group(s) will look to you to navigate Zoom technology and lead meetings in a structured, thoughtful way that allows for connection and leadership development. You should be confident using the basic features of Zoom, which are already enabled on your Zoom account, including: breakout rooms, chat, screen sharing, reactions, virtual background, and more.
When appropriate, you might choose to leverage additional Zoom features such as polls, annotations, sharing music, and whiteboards. Additionally, Zoom participants can enable closed captioning as needed.
At this time, AI assistants are not allowed to join Core meetings as (1) we aim to preserve the confidentiality of meetings, therefore we do not allow meeting transcriptions and (2) members must be present at their Core meetings to participate and cannot send an AI assistant in their absence. If you or a member needs AI assistance for accessibility reasons, please email guides@chief.com to discuss.
Below are a few tips for a seamless Zoom Experience:
Download and use the Zoom desktop app. Click HERE for directions.
Test your link and materials before each meeting. Avoid technical mishaps by practicing technical aspects of your facilitation like sharing your screen, breakout rooms, and annotations.
Curate your background. Ensure it is free of distractions and clutter or utilize a virtual background.
Decrease interruptions. Join from a quiet space that allows for your full attention. Do not facilitate meetings ‘on-the-go’.
Have a professional appearance. At Chief, we encourage our Guides to dress comfortably in business casual attire. Guides should use their best judgment to dress with professionalism and not wear anything that would make Core members feel uncomfortable. Clothing should not include profanity or appear distracting or revealing. Our goal is to promote an inclusive environment for all parties.
