Chief Terms Glossary
5 Cs: Commitment, Confidentiality, Candor, Context, and Curiosity. These five principles are key to a successful Core Group experience, and agreements for all members of Core at Chief.
Accounts Payable/accountspayable@chief.com: Supports Guides with invoicing and tax needs. This team is a part of the Chief Finance Team.
Add-Ons: Additional membership offerings that members can add to their membership type. This includes clubhouse access, executive education courses, and executive coaching.
Advisory Sessions: A part of the Core Premium membership, 1:1 sessions with the Core Guide are scheduled intentionally throughout the Core experience to help members maximize the impact of Core on their leadership journeys.
Agenda: Located on the Guide portal, Guide’s post a preview of the upcoming meeting for members to view.
All-Guides Call: Monthly call for the Guide community with updates, important information, and kudos.
All-Guides Channel: The group for Guides on the Chief platform. Here Guides interact and the Guide success team shares timely updates.
Alison Moore: Chief’s CEO
Attendance Policy: The guidelines set around member attendance. Members can view this policy on their portal.
Auto Renew: Memberships renew automatically each year unless a cancellation is requested by the member. More information on auto renew can be found here and here.
Bold Moves Form: Form to submit promotions, awards, and achievements. There is a Member bolds move form and a Guides bold moves form. Member bold moves will be shared in Chief in Brief and Guide bold moves will be shared in the Guide newsletter.
Cancellation Form: Form found on Chief.com where members can indicate their desire to cancel their membership. Members can also email experience@chief.com to request a cancellation.

Chief: Chief is the private network of executive women that helps members maximize their leadership impact through access to a vetted executive community and valuable insights.
ChiefGuides.com: The website that Guides can use to access meeting content, Guide programming, Guide resources, and other information that aids in their experience as a Guide. You can access the website at chiefguides.com and using the password provided by the Guide Success Team.
Chief Green: Chief Green comes from the historical significance of a green room in theater and media. A green room, or green room meeting, is a place where members of a specific group gather to have insightful conversation. Chief carries the spirit of the green room through its iconic Chief Green color.
Chief Courses: help executives strengthen foundational leadership competencies through live, interactive workshops led by world-renowned business academics.
Chief Website and App: Every member of the Chief community has their own personal account to access chief.com. You can access the platform on the web or the Chief mobile app. Here, you can access your Core Groups (Guide portal), Chief events, community groups, chat, and many other features.
Chief+ Membership: Membership level at which members have regular access to Chief flagship clubhouses.
ChiefX: 1-day conference offered in all Flagship Clubhouse cities (New York, Chicago, DC, San Francisco, and Los Angeles) as well as select cities (Atlanta, Boston, Dallas and Miami) where members hear from industry leaders, and gather in community with one another.
Clubhouse: Elevated lounge and meeting spaces for members to connect with members, enjoy coffee, and do business.
Community Conversations: Events hosted by the Guide Success Team for Guides to connect with other Guides on shared experiences, to learn together, and to share ideas and best practices. Attendance is voluntary.
Community Groups: Virtual groups curated for members to connect across shared industries, roles, identities, residences, and experiences while tapping into insights and advice. Members may join as many or few groups and partake in conversations pertinent to professional or personal interests. Guides also have their own community groups that they can access via Chief.com.
Concierge Team: Formally the Member Experience team, this team is trained in and dedicated to supporting members with all their membership questions and concerns.
Core: Supportive peer group focused on advancing member's leadership journey. It drives powerful personal transformation through a group-based experience to unpack challenges, foster deep connections, and accelerate leadership capacity. Members are curated based on professional level, scheduling availability, years at members’ current professional level, and their company’s annual revenue to form diverse groups. 1.5-2 hour meetings every 4-6 weeks, and 1 dedicated Guide.
Core Candor: A meeting resource that Guides can use to facilitate candid feedback conversations with their Core Groups. The Core Candor slide deck includes a variety of activities that Guides can choose from and can be accessed via the Meeting Content Library on ChiefGuides.com.
Coremation: What we call the process of creating Core Groups.
Core Ops: Short for Core Operations Team. This is the team responsible for creating Core Groups, adding and removing members, transitioning members from one group to another, and tracking data related to Core Groups.
Core Premium: Level of membership under Executive Advisory. This includes two advisory sessions with the member’s Core Guide as well as one executive education course, membership concierge, and community experiences.
Core Standard: Level of membership under Executive Advisory. This includes one executive education course, membership concierge, and community experiences.
Core Team: (see Core Ops)
CSAT: Customer Satisfaction Survey. Members can complete a survey following each Core meeting. The survey will appear as a pop-up in the app or on the website the next time the member logs in.
CSAT Score: The average rating of all of your Core Groups based on CSAT surveys.
Disband: The process by which a Core Group is retired and will no longer meet together.
Enablement: The process of providing resources, tools, and strategies for a company to operate more effectively and efficiently, and be more successful in the long run.
Engagement Survey: Sent to Guides when a member has missed 3 or more meetings. The survey asks the Guide to indicate if the member is engaged and should remain in the group, or is disengaged and should be removed.
Enterprise Membership: The member’s employer has paid for a number of Chief memberships. Enterprise members are not self-paying. This is coordinated between Chief and their company.
Executive Advisory: The membership type that includes Core. This includes Core standard and Core premium.
Executive Coaching: A service that matches members with a hand-picked, experienced coach to help navigate personal and professional challenges. This service is designed to build on leadership skills attained through our Core, programming, and networking services. Members may purchase packages for 4 or 8 sessions.
Executive Education: This membership type includes 3 courses and helps executives strengthen foundational leadership competencies through live, structured workshops led by world-renowned business academics.
Executive Level (C-Suite or VP): Determined by multiple factors, including, but not limited to: job title, number of direct reports, levels from the CEO, and company size. Only members of the same executive level are in Core Groups together.

Flagship Clubhouse: (see clubhouse)
Grant: Chief pays for a portion of one’s membership. Members must apply and qualify for grants with the Member Experience team. More information on grants can be found here.
Group Chat: Each Core Group will have a group chat created in the portal. Here you can message your whole group at once.
Guide: Core Group facilitators who lead members through Core materials and Peer Advisory. Guides have experience with executive coaching and many have been executives themselves.
Guide Change: When a Guide leaves their Core Group or joins an existing Core Group to replace the group’s former Guide.
Guide Handbook: Document provided by Chief outlining expectations and policies pertaining to Chief Guides.
Guide Portal: This is the digital space where Guides can access information to support their Core Groups as well as view general Chief offerings. The portal includes all Core Groups, and platform to add agendas, take attendance, share summaries and recaps. It also includes the chat feature, community groups, upcoming events and On Demand events, Thought Leadership, etc.
Guide Team: The team that supports and enables the Guides community by providing timely information, support, communication, and connection with and between the Guide community as well representing and advocating for Guides within the larger Chief organization. They answer all emails sent to guides@chief.com.
Inclusive Facilitation: A facilitation practice that utilizes inclusive practices to guide the group as a collective – incorporating their needs – always ensuring that no one gets left behind.
Individual Core change: When an individual member leaves or joins a new Core Group.
Invoicing: Guides share a PDF of all the meetings they facilitated each month with accountspayable@chief.com.
Lindsay Kaplan (LK): Co-founder of Chief.
Listening Session: A type of facilitated discussion aimed at collecting feedback from a specific group of people. Several listening sessions for both members and Guides were held in early 2023.
M1, M2, M3, etc.: Shorthand for Meeting 1, Meeting 2, Meeting 3, etc. This denotes the meeting number for an individual Core Group. Meetings 1, 2, and 3 follow a templated meeting structure and meetings 4 and beyond focus on peer advisory.
Meeting Summary: Guides note key takeaways, post resources from the meeting, share goals for the following meeting, and update members who could not attend. Summaries are visible to all members of the group and to the Chief team.
Meeting Recap: Meeting insights shared by the Guide to only the Chief Guides team. One of the ways the Chief team assesses engagement and group dynamics.
Member: A person who has joined Chief’s community and pays for an annual membership.
Member Experience: See Concierge team.
Membership Start Date: The day a member’s membership "officially starts"; Members will be asked to renew annually on this date.
Merge: When two or more existing Core Groups join to form one Core Group.
Multipartiality: A facilitation approach that balances power in group settings that supports and sustains all voices, especially those marginalized and with less power.
Next Step Survey: A survey sent to a group that is struggling with engagement/attendance to understand what members need to improve their experience. This can lead to new members, a new Guide, group retirement, individual Core changes, or no change.
New Core Experience: This describes the updates to Core that pilot groups and groups formed in and after March 2024 will experience. This includes new Core Group matching criteria, 90-minute meetings, and new M1-M4 content (a focus on peer advisory).
Onboarding Manager: A Concierge team specialist who supports members during their first 90 days of membership.
Onboarding Survey: When Members join the Chief community, they are asked to complete an onboarding survey so the Chief team is able to curate their Core Group + Chief experiences.
Ongoing Scheduling: When Chief schedules the next 10 meetings for the Core Group.
Ongoing Scheduling Survey: Survey sent by Chief to all members and the Guide to collect availability for the next 10 meetings. This typically goes out a month before M10.
Peer Advisory: a safe environment where members feel comfortable and confident sharing what's top of mind and unpacking their struggles with a group of trusted peers.
Poll: Survey sent to members to gain scheduling information in order to reschedule a meeting.
Portal: The digital space where members can access information to support their membership. This includes their Core Group, the chat feature, community groups, upcoming events and On Demand events, Thought Leadership, etc.
Professional Chapters: Professional Chapters are monthly events that can be virtual or in-person in major metros that connect members to a more specific group of peers who share related roles and common goals. These events are hosted by Chief community managers and facilitated by designated Chief members.
Renewal: The annual cadence at which a Chief membership is renewed. A member’s renewal date can be viewed on their Chief.com “My Membership” page. Guides can also view each Core Group member’s renewal day on the Guide portal.
Rescheduling Form: Guides should fill out this form, which is sent directly to the Scheduling team, to reschedule a Core meeting and/or report a substitute. It can be found on Chiefguides.com.
Retired Group: When a Core Group will no longer meet together (also known as a “disband”).
Roundtable: Monthly Chief member events where panelists talk about emerging leadership development topics relevant to Chief members. Roundtables are hosted in all cities with Flagship Clubhouses as well as other major Chief metro areas and virtually.
Scheduling Team: The team responsible for initial, ongoing, and rescheduling. This team shares scheduling updates with members and Guides, as well as updates the portal.
Speednetworking: Event put on by the Guide Success Team for Guides to spend time with other Guides in the community in a structured but casual way.
Sponsorship: The member’s employer sponsors their Chief membership either fully or partially. This is coordinated between the member and their company.
Swag: Swag is considered any item that is not considered to be a milestone gift. Examples of swag include: Chief sweatshirts, notebook, mug, books, and baby onesies.
Transition: Any change to the membership of a Core Group. This could include adding a member, losing a member, merging a group, or retiring the group.
Wrap Slides: A brief set of Google slides to use at the end of each Core Group meeting that share upcoming meeting dates, highlights Chief programming or news, and encourages feedback.
Zoom: The video conferencing platform used to host all Core Group meetings, Chief events, and virtual team meetings.
